R for data visualisation

2-week period   |   Interactive online sessions   |   Active learning support

Our team at Epi-interactive have tailored a class to allow people with great ideas to quickly acquire the skills to get going and share their data and findings with others in ways that make life easier and take the frustration out of data visualisation.

The Masterclass will be led by Dr. Uli Muellner (Director IT & Information Design), Crystal Johnston (Full-Stack Developer) and Nick Snellgrove (Full-Stack Developer).

About this event

Do you feel stuck in Excel, trying to get your data out there in more than just pivot tables? Or are you just over the grind of manually re-doing the same thing over and over again? You are not alone! Over 5 sessions we will look into the basics of the statistical programming language R and how it can be applied to data visualisation and automated report generation. The course covers data cleaning and pre-processing, transforming your data, displaying it in multiple formats (data tables and plots), and finally tying it all together in a click-of-a-button report document that you can save and share with your audience. We will work through multiple datasets and exercises so on conclusion of the class you can hit the ground running.

Why R?

R is the most popular language in the world of data science, it's highly versatile and the standard language for performing statistical operations. R is an open-source language (which means you don’t have to pay a license fee to use it).  Even better, R provides you with the ability to build aesthetic web-applications. Using the R Shiny package, you can develop interactive dashboards to tell better stories with your data.

Who should attend

Whether you are a beginner or are needing a refresh, this training will help you gain familiarity with the statistical programming language R and learn how to take your data and reporting to the next level. Maybe you have been mainly using Excel or an off-the shelf tool like Power BI, but are frustrated by its limitations and are keen to build more advanced visuals to do your data justice. You might have a dataset or model you want to prepare outputs for and want to progress to a more powerful, efficient and streamlined process. This Masterclass can be used as an entry into R or can be used as preparation for our R Shiny Masterclasses.
